Stanley Tucci, certainly is a world class foodie, qualified to be the new Anthony Bourdain, minus the bad boy image and angst。 Many chapters end with recipes complimenting the previous escapade or food adventure described in that chapter。 Con- mid way the minutia, the excruciating details, slowed me up, so I skimmed some middle chapters, so the middle third, I really breezed through。 Pro- his childhood, and family memories of growing up are lovely。 This isn’t a autobiography, so you won’t learn Stanley Tucci, certainly is a world class foodie, qualified to be the new Anthony Bourdain, minus the bad boy image and angst。 Many chapters end with recipes complimenting the previous escapade or food adventure described in that chapter。 Con- mid way the minutia, the excruciating details, slowed me up, so I skimmed some middle chapters, so the middle third, I really breezed through。 Pro- his childhood, and family memories of growing up are lovely。 This isn’t a autobiography, so you won’t learn much about Stanley, but he does share his harrowing bout with cancer。 Thankfully, a good outcome, with his sense of “Taste” intact! 。。。more
Jennie,
If you like food (I do), travel (I do), and Stanley Tucci (I DO), then you will really enjoy this book。 The audio version is a delight。 I highly recommend listening while cooking pasta and/or sipping on a negroni。
Pete,
After watching most of Tucci’s CNN series on Italy, I became excited about reading his two cookbooks。 When this memoir was published I dived right in!This book was wonderful, a heartfelt journey through his life and family through food。 I highly recommend reading it!
Zhiqing ,
Listening to Stanley Tucci read his memoir about family and food is a mouth watering experience。 I am a big fan of the Big Night and "that f$%#ing Timpano" is definitely on my bucket list now。 Listening to Stanley Tucci read his memoir about family and food is a mouth watering experience。 I am a big fan of the Big Night and "that f$%#ing Timpano" is definitely on my bucket list now。 。。。more

Imagine if Big Night were a memoir…。 I breezed through this food memoir and found it to be simply delightful。

Helped me find my appetite again。
Kathryn Murphy,
I don’t like rating books like this but I loved this。 I will say this though: if you’re hungry, this won’t help at all。 You’ll become ravenous。 If you’re not hungry, you will become hungry quite quickly 🤤。
Cindy,
I absolutely loved this book, it took me through his life ( at times it felt like my own ) through his culinary experiences。 It introduced me to his history and to his present day life。 I was completely entertained for days reading this and wish that somehow I could sit at his dinner table and just listen to him talk about by gone days。 This book has touched me on a very personal level。 Thank you Mr。 Tucci for writing such a wonderful book。
Seana,
Ah! Reading this book and watching his CNN show Searching for Italy has convinced me to take my family to visit Italy! Can’t get enough!
E,
Not interesting。 Clearly Tucci landed a three book deal - this is his third - I found that there wasn't really anything interesting about this book (or really anything other than very basic Italian recipes。) Not interesting。 Clearly Tucci landed a three book deal - this is his third - I found that there wasn't really anything interesting about this book (or really anything other than very basic Italian recipes。) 。。。more

Stanley Tucci is a gift。 I listened to this book, read by the author, and it was a delight。 I will likely buy the book just to have the recipes, because they all sound delicious。 This left me even more endeared to a public figure that I didn’t believe I could be more endeared to。
Em Stevens,
This is a delightful memoir in the vein of Nigella Lawson。 Stories peppered with recipes and warmth。 I listened to it and highly recommend the audio--Tucci has such a distinctive voice and cadence and it feels like he's telling you stories over coffee。 This is a delightful memoir in the vein of Nigella Lawson。 Stories peppered with recipes and warmth。 I listened to it and highly recommend the audio--Tucci has such a distinctive voice and cadence and it feels like he's telling you stories over coffee。 。。。more

Perhaps it's his charisma, his dimples, his wit, or that sparkle in his eye。。。。 whatever it is, I adore Stanley Tucci as an actor, a writer, and apparently, a cook。 Taste is a food-centric memoir, sprinkled with some mouth watering recipes passed down from Tucci's family。 I suppose that it would be handy to have a hard copy of this book to access the recipes, but then I would have missed out on Tucci's narration which made this all the more enjoyable。Tucci admits that food is not just a huge par Perhaps it's his charisma, his dimples, his wit, or that sparkle in his eye。。。。 whatever it is, I adore Stanley Tucci as an actor, a writer, and apparently, a cook。 Taste is a food-centric memoir, sprinkled with some mouth watering recipes passed down from Tucci's family。 I suppose that it would be handy to have a hard copy of this book to access the recipes, but then I would have missed out on Tucci's narration which made this all the more enjoyable。Tucci admits that food is not just a huge part of his life, but, it *was* his life。 He came to this realization after cancer disrupted his life, career, and ability to enjoy meals。 He described how "Food at once grounded me, took me to other places。 It comforted me and challenged me。 It was part of the fabric that made up my creative self, and my domestic self。"Tucci points out that food is not just nourishment。 Food allows us to express our love for others, and make connections with new people。 The ability to connect over a meal, or pass down a recipe from generation to generation, is a spell that food casts - making memories while preserving the tastes of older memories。 A delightful read best enjoyed with a Negroni or a glass of wine, and a smile。 。。。more

All the stars for this book and yes, I'm extremely biased! Food, cocktails, travel and Stanley all in one book! Also, he has not shared much about when he had cancer, so I was surprised to read his emotional story of his cancer diagnosis and treatment, and the effects it had on his relationship with food。 The book includes several recipes, many of which are in the stories he tells, including a recipe that includes "a fuck of a ton of butter"。 He also shares cocktail recipes for his beloved Negroni and Martini。 How can you not love this man?! I only wish this book was longer and filled with more of his stories and culinary adventures。 I hope he will write another one and convince a network to give him a food show forever! 。。。more

Lesa,
Last Thursday, when Katherine mentioned she had listened to Stanley Tucci read Taste on the audiobook, I didn’t realize what a miracle it is that he was able to read it。 He had surgery to remove an enormous cancerous tumor from the base of his tongue, and he feared he wouldn’t be able to talk well again。 For an actor, that would mean a loss of his livelihood。 For Tucci, it was even worse。 He feared he would never be able to taste and enjoy food again。In the course of writing his memoir, he came Last Thursday, when Katherine mentioned she had listened to Stanley Tucci read Taste on the audiobook, I didn’t realize what a miracle it is that he was able to read it。 He had surgery to remove an enormous cancerous tumor from the base of his tongue, and he feared he wouldn’t be able to talk well again。 For an actor, that would mean a loss of his livelihood。 For Tucci, it was even worse。 He feared he would never be able to taste and enjoy food again。In the course of writing his memoir, he came to realize that he really does live for food, for the preparation, the sharing, the taste and joy of it。 That’s what he shares in this book, his memories of food along with a number of recipes。 Those memories begin with his childhood in New York, sixty miles north of Manhattan。 He grew up in an Italian family for whom food was important。 It was the primary activity and main topic of conversation in his family。 His mother was a creative cook, and his father always appreciated her cooking。Tucci shares that appreciation for food, whether through his memories of family meals or family holiday celebrations。 He even shares that joy in his footnotes, such as, “I must confess that sometimes I think the best bread in Italy is in France。” There’s wit and charm throughout the book。While Tucci shares many of his favorite memories of food over the years, he doesn’t neglect the sad moments of his life。 He doesn’t go into great detail, but he does talk about the loss of his wife to breast cancer when she was only forty-seven。 And, of course, he talks about his own cancer。But, he talks about his children with love, and he talks about his second wife, Felicity Blunt, and her love of food。 She’s shared some of his food adventures, and she shared both pandemic lockdowns with him。 During the first lockdown in London, there were eight of them in the house, including an eighteen-year-old, his college-age twins, and a friend of theirs who couldn’t get to her family。 His daily schedule trying to feed them, while tending to a toddler and a five-year-old, sounds horrendous。 He makes a joke that his family ate all the meat in London during the first lockdown。I really knew little about Stanley Tucci before reading this book。 Yes, I’ve seen him in a few movies, including Julie & Julia, and he talks about that one, and his admiration for Julia Child。 All the details of his life are interesting, but it’s the food that readers will remember。 And, I think Tucci will be happy if it’s the food people remember about Taste: My Life Through Food。 。。。more

I listened to this book and though I don’t think I would have read it entirely of the book was in my hand, I ended up appreciating it for so many reasons。 People share love through food, I loved Tucci’s voice, and the only wish was for more of his story throughout。

I loved this book。 Granted, I opted for the audio version, and I could listen to Stanley Tucci read the telephone 。 That said, there is great imagery, enough to cause salivation while sitting in traffic。 It is a “must read” for foodies。

I can’t remember the last time I read a book that quickly when not on holiday。 I didn’t want to take any breaks。 When I started it this afternoon, the pub stereo was playing Buono Sera。 I made Tucci’s timpano while watching Big Night a few years ago。 I’m only broken hearted my mom can’t read the book as she would have loved it as much as I did。 I’ll be gifting many copies of it at Christmas。
